It is interesting to see the results of our polls. This last poll was asking the question of "Which way would you prefer to see our swords displayed?" The options were pretty simple.
Plain on White Backgrounds
Taken in Real World Point of View
Collaged with Other Images
Staged
Ironically, its been proven over the years and years of ecommerce that products on white backgrounds do better than anything else. According to your votes, it appears that more of you would prefer to have the swords and weapons staged in theatrical manner. Like a movie set for movie props.
We are in the process of moving to a larger location and will be completely redoing all of our product images very soon and honestly, the easiest way to take great sword pics is to use a solid white background and great lighting. So having said that, I just want to personally apologize to the majority of the visitors on our site and hope that you will enjoy the swords and armor and movie replicas we offer...even if they are on white backgrounds.
You may have noticed that we added Google Checkout to our store a few days ago. You may also have noticed that we took down Google Checkout yesterday. Why you ask? Well, apparently having Google Checkout violates the TOS with Yahoo! Stores. This was a weird situation because if you called Yahoo! technical support, the canned answer was always "We have seen it being used on other larger Yahoo! stores so it must be OK to do." which is dead wrong. I gave a call to a good friend of mine at 1Choice4YourStore.com and had them do some investigation for me. After a few hours I got a phone call back and they went way high on the Yahoo! store ladder and found that it is indeed a big no no for Yahoo! store owners to have Google Checkout on their websites. Now it appears that the higher ups are having meetings ASAP to get the word down to the lower first line channels. So, we apologize for this inconvenience and hope there is a future plan for integration. In the meantime, if you would like it purchase a sword from Replica Dungeon via Google Checkout, just contact us directly and we can arrange an invoice.
This summer I will be attending my very first Renaissance Faire and I have to say that I am extremely excited. From what I have heard and seen on video, it is an awesome site to see.
Renaissance Faires are more like a huge craft fair with historical reenactments. I would say 95% of everyone that participates in the festival is dressed in costumes and carrying swords and armor. The costumes, or garb as they called it in the Elizabethan period, are very detailed and historically accurate. They also have performance artists at the Renaissance Faire which include musicians, magicians, jugglers and others. There are thousands of booths selling crafts and food of the period and don't forget the English Ale!
Although there are no dress codes it is always best to dress up. Not only does it make you feel better and gets you in the mood but it also makes for great conversation. Typically if you don't want to go all out just some simple leather shoes or sandals is fine with a blowsy shirt and snug pants with no pockets is just fine. The larger Renaissance Faires have rental costumes for the day and you can always purchase medieval armor and helmets and clothing while you are there.
It's a fun experience if you have never been so I am looking forward to dressing up and picking a sword fight with a local... To find a fair in your state, check out this site. Renaissance Faires by State.
Sword care is a very important part of your swords especially if you purchased a carbon steel blade. Always remember, carbon steel which is very strong is also prone to rust. This means that you must take special care of your swords to make sure they last a long time in your home or office.
The best thing to do when you get your new sword is immediately pull it out the box and wipe it down. Most new swords have been coated with oil or grease to protect the blade during shipping and stocking. The easiest way to remove the grease is with something like lacquer thinner.
You should now have a clean blade that you can wield around the backyard like a true sword smith. If you have a samurai sword then instead of a sword smith, go get ninja outfit and you can pretend you are a Japanese warrior ;-p
Every sword needs to be cleaned when done handling but this is critical with a carbon steel or "battle ready" weapon. The acid from your skin can cause the blade to rust or pit. Pitting occurs when you oxygen gets trapped in oils or even dust that accumulates on the blade.
I personally use a sword cloth to wipe down my swords but you could also use a light coat of oil or even a silicone spray. Even a light coat of cooking oil is better than nothing at all.
If your blade came with a leather scabbard, I would also recommend that you NOT store the blade in the leather protector. The leather can trap moisture which can produce rust spots on the blade.
If you do happen to have some rust on your sword or weapon, there is always a few ways to remove it. The first is a chemical cleaning. My only suggestion is that from a real sword cleaning kit. These cleaning kits are specifically designed to handle such problems and therefore is the only method that I use. With that said, you can always try acid cleaning. I don't mean the stuff that eats the skin off your fingers but something like lemon juice or vinegar. This may take a few days of working but usually it does the trick. You can also try a Diet Coke. It must be diet because of the extra phosphonic acid is has. Anything beyond these are out of my area of expertise.
The other option of removing rust from your sword is abrasives. Oil and steel wool is the method I prescribe because its the easiest. Just remember to go easy because if you are not careful you could damage the blade.
Things I DO NOT suggest you try...
Sandpaper
Polishing Stones
Wire Brushes
Grinding wheels
Never use any of the above to attempt to remove rust or sharpen your weapon. It takes 5 years to learn how to forge a sword and 10 years to learn how to polish one. That should put it into perspective enough.
If you are storing your swords and weapons for a long period of time then you need to have a sword bag and a few desiccant packages to keep the moisture out. The desiccant packages are those little square things you tend to find almost everything you buy these days. Should be easy enough to get a few of those. If you have a gun or wall safe, that is even better for storing your swords.
The leather scabbards I mentioned above can also be cleaned. To do this, just simply use a nice paste wax or lemon oil. This will protect it from moisture and from cracking. The same stuff you use for a baseball glove will also work quite well.
This should be enough information to get you on your way. If you have some specific questions or problems, don't hesitate to check this website or contact us.
Its good to know that United Cutlery is back in business. Since the bankruptcy in October of 2006, it was unclear what the future would hold for this company. Luckily, the company was bought up and is now back in operation. During this restructuring, they did lose the license for creating the Lord of the Rings swords and its still up in the air if they will regain that legacy. Only time will tell but I do believe they will once again be manufacturing the LOTR swords and weapons. In the meantime, they are driven to rebuild and should be bigger and better than ever. You can be assured that Replica Dungeon will once again carry weapons and blades from United Cutlery.
I cannot wait for the next Harry Potter movie to hit theatres nationwide. Even though I am 34 years old, I LOVE the Harry Potter films and I think this next movie, Order of the Phoenix is going one of the best films yet. I have found a nice little clip of the movie that has some special interviews with the cast. Check it out below...
When you get done, be sure to check out the Harry Potter movie prop replicas we have in stock and ready for purchase. We have the Harry Potter wands and Harry Potter swords and other Harry Potter movie replicas. As always, we appreciate your support and hope that you enjoy our site. Now bring on the Order of the Phoenix!
Good news everyone! We at Replica Dungeon have just aquired a replica version of the 300 Spartan sword. These swords are completely handmade with carbon steel and includes a leather sheath. The leather wrapped handles make this piece as good, if not better, than the original version manufactured by NECA. At a fraction of the cost, this 300 Spartan sword is worth checking out.
Will Smith is starring in an upcoming Sci-Fi film called, I am Legend and from what I can tell, it seems to be an unrealistic version of the movie series, Blade. At least with Blade, he was fighting a small underground group of Vampires. In this movie, Will Smith is fighting every other living man, woman and child because everyone on earth is a vampire except him. Sound ridiculous to you? Sounds impossible to me but that won't keep me from watching the film when it releases in December. No word yet on what the weapon of choice will be so I will keep on the lookout and see if its something we can carry. In the meantime, head over to our website and grab weapon or sword for your collection.
So I am finally getting around to making a post about the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, and let me tell ya...OMG AWESOME! This was the movie of all movies and personally I think it was the best of the triology. The coolest part was they did leave it open ended so it really is possible to make the 4th movie if they wanted.
The only thing I regret is that I am in the middle of moving my warehouse to something larger was not able to get a good Pirates of the Caribbean sword sale. I know all you pirate fans are looking for the legendary Sword of Jack Sparrow and we have it on sale!
Gotta admit, it was the perfect time for those reality TV show makers to launch Pirates. The reality series has folks walking the plank and being set adrift when kicked off. Some of these competitors are even taking it serious with the way the think and talk. Its pretty funny to me.
Anyway, I thought the latest Pirates of the Caribbean was a perfect blend of action on the high seas. The only thing missing was the captain of the crab boat Northwestern from Deadliest Catch. Be sure to check out all our other pirate swords for your sailing adventures.
