Movie Collectibles - Movie Props - Movie Replicas

Many people looking for swords online have a hard time deciding on what to actually buy. The problem is that there are really nice carbon steel, full tang swords and then there are stainless steel swords that are not full tang and at a fraction of the price. So which sword do you buy?

The easiest way to answer this question is to first ask yourself what you are going to be using it for. Honestly, the answer to all your questions start with this answer. If you are merely purchasing a sword for display purposes only, then a cheap sword with a stainless steel blade is perfect. Sure, I suspect you will grab it off the stand or wall plaque occassionally and swing it around the room and maybe play fight with your friends for about 30 seconds making "sword" sounds like you did when you were a kid but more or less, its gonna sit in its display and look good and when your buds come over, its a great conversation piece.

The difference in which sword to buy in this situation is purely the buyers disgreation. It really only comes down to your own personal taste as either option (real or replica) is a perfect fit. The only factor here is that typically a real sword is made from carbon steel which can and will rust if you do not take care of it. Basically this means you need to wipe it down after you handle it and you need to oil it a few times per year. You can read our article on how to clean a sword for more information. A stainless steel blade will not rust but it will get fingerprints so you still need to wipe it down but if you don't, at least it won't rust.

If you are going to be using your sword for a Rennaissance Faire costume or reenactment or perhaps stage use, then you definately want to spend a few extra bucks and buy yourself a carbon steel or "battle ready" sword. The carbon steel is much stronger and able to withstand the clashing with another sword or object. It also comes much sharper than a replica sword which only has a false edge at best.

Both options are really great because there are some really super stainless steel pieces on the market but if you are looking for something with a little more muscle, a sharper edge and can take a beating, then look for a carbon steel sword but understand you gotta take care of it.
